Join UWLE members for a Women in Command Seminar, presented October 9-10, 2018. The interactive course is conceived, constructed and taught by successful female law enforcement executives. Training in Review: At the beginning of this October, 2018. The Utah Women in Law Enforcement teamed up with Calibre Press for our Quarterly Training. With sponsorship from the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office; the UWLE invited out Chief Deputy Cyndy Velazquez of Lombard Illinois PD. As an instructor with Calibre Press, Cyndy Velazquez led a two day energetic and interactive course titled; Women in Command. Through her many achievements, education, life and career experiences Cyndy was able to teach officers and civilians from all over Utah about leadership. Both men and women from multiple agencies and in various departments, positions and ranks learned about several aspects, talents and skill sets involving leadership. Among those topics covered were; • Creating an Effective Organizational Climate • Leadership Qualities Unique to Women • Learning from Successful Female Leaders • Leading in a Male Dominated Profession • Supervising other Females • Building your Credibility • Mentoring and Leading by Example • Breaking through the Glass Ceiling and • Self Examination. In review the Women in Command seminar provided an excellent outlook on Leadership. Cyndy not only had personal experience to share but references and resources for becoming a better Leader within your agency. This would be our second training in conjunction with Calibre Press, the first being ‘Female Enforcers’ which was this spring at POST. Their training programs are excellent and we look forward to working with them in the future. Local ABC News spotlighted our event. Interviewing Cyndy Velazquez and the Utah Women in Law Enforcement President, Richelle Bradley. They discussed the training and topics which they found relevant to their overall success as effective leaders.
